CHOIRS

March 16/20: Practices in the Bethel building are suspended until further notice, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Like many Mennonite churches, Bethel has a love of choral singing.  We love making music together and invite you to join one of our choirs.  The Bethel Singers joins soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices.  This choir rehearses one evening each week and sings a few times per month from September to May.  The Men of Song combines tenor and bass voices.  They also rehearse one evening per week, singing in our worship services during the fall and again in the spring months.

All are welcome to join these choirs.  Please check the calendar in the events section of the web site to find the mid-week rehearsal days and times.

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

Bethel Mennonite Church strongly supports the continued development and strengthening of the arts in our community. Therefore the Worship Committee operates an Artist-in-Residence program at Bethel. Bethel’s Vision Statement is as follows: Loving God, each other and our neighbours. We welcome creative expressions of this vision, recognizing that our creative impulses come from God, our creator. In different years alternative artistic genres will be explored.

Each annual term for the position runs from September to June.

Copyrights for all artistic creations are retained by the artists.

Lynda Toews was Bethel’s artist-in-residence for 2020-2021 – during the COVID pandemic. Toews designed a quilt to celebrate the Mennonite Central Committee’s 100th Anniversary. The quilt was sewn by Cheryl Warkentin. Bethel donated this quilt to the MCC.  2020 was also the year of the launch of a new Mennonite Church hymnal, Voices Together, for which Toews created a large painting to celebrate music. Her final project was on the theme of trees. In addition to these three main projects, Toews also preached and did an adult education presentation on faith and art using Zoom. She also contributed to the design and content of an artist-in-residence section of the Bethel web site (with Martin Kaethler).
